Osteopathy can be a solution for common complaints in babies and children. During the first appointment, an extensive consultation and examination will be conducted to determine the symptoms and their possible causes. Based on the consultation and examination, a treatment plan will be drawn up. In many cases, this will involve a few appointments. It is important to note that only gentle mobilising movements are used during treatment (never manipulation). The most common complaints we see in babies are: crying, restlessness, colic or a preferred posture. Birth is a very stressful event, during which many mechanical forces act on both mother and child. The forces involved in childbirth, such as contractions, can cause blockages or areas of tension. The position of the child, the duration of labour and interventions such as vacuum extraction or forceps can increase these forces.
